About St Paul
St Paul is a tremendous city serving as the capital of Minnesota and the state’s second largest city. Thanks to the Louisiana Purchase in 1803, the door was opened for new settlers and expansion into the land. People came to the area in droves, resulting in the need to build Fort Snelling in 1819 after a successful land negotiation with the Dakota tribe. As time went on, the area eventually became a well-known place for trading. Eventually, the modest settlement grew and developed into a city and was named the capital of the Minnesota Territory in 1849. St Paul quickly became the go-to destination for those exploring Minnesota or the Dakotas. Settlers, explorers, and missionaries all headed to the fort for protection and as a place to gather supplies.
Different neighborhoods came and went through the 1900’s. In the 1950’s and 1960’s especially, several urban renewal projects were put into play in order to revitalize certain neighborhoods. Some neighborhoods were torn down in order to make way for new interstates like I-94 or buildings. Small skyscrapers began to paint the landscape as the economy grew throughout the 1970’s and 1980’s such as Galtier Plaza, The Pointe of Saint Paul condominiums, and Wells Fargo Place.
Today, St Paul features a thriving atmosphere for work, shopping, and entertainment. Thanks to some very large companies that are headquartered locally, St Paul has thriving economy. Companies such as Ecolab, 3M, and Securian Financial Group are just a few of the many large corporations that employ local Minnesotans and given prominence to St Paul.
